NTUA Professor George Yannis has recently given a key-note speech on Data-driven Road Infrastructure Planning for Vision Zero fatalities, at the Connecting Europe Days 2026 organized by the Directorate General for Mobility and Transport (DG Move) of the European Commission in Brussels on 28 September to 1 October 2026   pdf5. This speech culminated his 20-years intensive contribution to the preparation, adoption and implementation of the breakthrough European Union Directive (2008 & 2019) on Road Infrastructure Safety Management, which marks blatantly the safe system approach in practice in the EU. National Road Authorities are now binded to assess and inspect road infrastructure related crash factors and implement and evaluate targeted countermeasures, making EU roads the safest in the world.
