In this work the use of a mathematical simulation model in order to estimate the traffic impact and to elaborate proposals for the management of heavy good vehicles traffic in center Athens area is investigated. The methodology used is based on the implementation of an appropriate traffic simulation model. The application of this model for the selection of the proposed areas, in which restrictions on the movement of heavy goods vehicles  are implemented was based on the definition of the percentage variation of the average traffic in the alternative examined scenarios. The simulation results indicate the expansion of the limits of the current implementation area, in which the restrictions on heavy goods vehicles apply. For the final choice other parameters have to be taken under consideration, which are associated with environmental, social and economical criteria and which are not examined within this work.
