This research deals with the development of the transportation system to cater for the needs of guests at one of the Olympic Villages of the Athens 2004 Olympic Games. The Olympic Village examined was located at the port of Piraeus, next to the city of Athens, and accommodated 13.430 guests. The investigated specific elements of the transportation system involved arrangements for the traffic of vehicles and pedestrians as well for the short- and long-term parking of the vehicles. The different needs of the Olympic guests were quantified in detail, followed by the calculation of the necessary infrastructure provisions. Furthermore, the proposed operations and services were combined within an integrated transportation plan for the area, respecting efficient transportation and high safety and security standards within the boundaries of this Olympic Village. The design of this Olympic Village did meet successfully the actual needs of the Olympic guests.
