On Tuesday, November 26, 2024, the 8th meeting of the
Government Committee on Road Safety was held, chaired by the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, responsible for Transport, Vasilis Oikonomou, and attended by: the Deputy Minister of Citizen Protection and Vice-President of the Government Committee on Road Safety, Andreas Nikolakopoulos, the Deputy Minister of Digital Governance, Konstantinos Kyranakis, the Secretary General of Transport, Despoina Palaiarouta, the Secretary General for Health Services, Lillian Venetia Vildiridi, as well as officials from the Ministries of Interior, Health, Citizen Protection, Infrastructure and Transport, and Digital Governance.
During the meeting, the following decisions were made:
1. Appointment of a new Coordinator of the Executive Committee, the Secretary General of Transport, Despoina Palaiarouta.
2. Update on the National Strategic Road Safety Plan.
The Deputy Minister of Transport, Vasilis Oikonomou, presented the interrelated actions of the National Strategic Plan, with the establishment of a National Observatory and the implementation of intangible actions.
3. National Communication Policy for Road Safety.
4. Digital Management of Violations.
There was extensive discussion on the development of a camera system.
5. Adoption of a new Highway Code.
6. Road Safety Certification.
7. Education and Traffic Training.
8. Dealing with Road Accidents.
