This PhD thesis aims to develop sophisticated models for the analysis of international data related to the investment strategy of private equity funds in the infrastructure sector.

The objectives are summarized as follows:

– To identify the socio-economic factors influencing the participation of institutional investors in infrastructure projects at local, regional, national and international levels

– To develop sophisticated macroscopic models to assess institutional investors’ preference for infrastructure projects at local, regional, national and international level

– To determine the influence of strategies, programmes and measures in attracting private capital to infrastructure projects internationally

– To identify the potential for comparing data on investment in infrastructure projects by institutional investors internationally

– To identify the potential for generalising the choices of institutional investors in terms of their participation in infrastructure projects internationally

This PhD thesis will contribute to identifying the factors that directly and indirectly influence institutional investors’ choice to participate in an infrastructure project, and the possibilities of comparing these data between different countries at the international level. The use of the results can help to identify the most effective approaches and to develop appropriate policies and strategies for attracting private capital investment in infrastructure projects at the international level.
