This Diploma Thesis examines the visibility of the control tower of an airport. The main objective is to create a method that allows the engineer to inspect and examine the visibility of an airport control tower at the airport complex and the surrounding area. First the roles of the control tower are defined and analyzed as well as the regulations from EASA and ICAO that concern safe and correct airport functions, so that the main objective is understood. Furthermore, appropriate software has been developed in a PC environment to simplify and accelerate the calculation process and to provide a clear view of the results. The digital framework was also created to examine two Greek airports and the visibility of their control towers was checked for different scenarios. After the implementation of this method and through the consequent results the engineer is able to assess and judge the adequacy of the visibility of the control tower that is being examined and to determine the areas that cannot be seen and are therefore critical.
