On the basis of disaggregate data of the road accident data base of the National Statistical Service of Greece an analysis of parameters affecting road safety in the Greek road network is carried out.  In the first part, road safety trends in relation to the road network of the country are presented.  In the second part, the impact of road infrastructure parameters to road accidents and their severity is examined.  Macroscopic consideration of these parameters leads to useful conclusions for the general priorities for interventions on the road network in local, regional and national level, which do not seem to coincide always with the related prevailing impressions.
