The objective of this research is the analysis of pedestrians’ road crossing behaviour in urban areas on the basis of the survival / duration theory. For that purpose, detailled survey data are exploited, including a number of pedestrian trips in urban areas and the related road crossings, as well as the characteristics of the road environment, the traffic conditions and the pedestrians themselves. On the basis of this data, survival / duration models are developed, allowing to etimate the moment of road crossing during a pedestrian trip, in relation to the above characteristics. The models are expected to provide useful results as per the determinants of pedestrians’ road crossing behaviour during urban trips, allowing for the description and explanation of this behaviour.
