This research examines the impact from the introduction of electronic means of information not only to the internal organisation of the companies of goods transport but also to the structure of the transport sector as a whole. Electronic means of information support the five strategic thrusts of the company. e.g. services differentiation, cost reduction, innovation exploitation, company growth and strategic alliances and can bring competitive advantage to the goods transport companies.  On the contrary, lack of information systems limits the potential of the company wishing to survive at the competitive environment of goods transport sector.  The new reality at the transport sector transforms the rules of competition, the structure of the companies and the relations between all the actors involved.  The production chain of goods transport has new possibilities, whereas new fields of action appear for the goods transport sector.
