Based on large bibliography research and use of international and Greek experience, the identification of a framework of technical solutions is attempted, which could lead to the reduction in the numbers of road accidents and the related casualties.  The proposed framework comprises technical solutions concerning the improvement of the characteristics of the road environment (infrastructure, traffic), the vehicle and the road user behaviour (driver, pedestrian), as well as the more efficient enforcement (frequency, fines) and post-crash treatment (transport and care).  Special attention is given to the integrated and efficient implementation of the technical solutions, according to which an integrated long-term programme with quantitative objectives is necessary, accompanied by the corresponding budget previsions, mass effort for active participation of citizens and involved bodies and systematic monitoring of the programme and road safety progress.  The appropriate selection of technical solutions in combination with their efficient implementation could lead in the medium term to important reduction in the number of road accidents and the related casualties in Greece.
